How does one take a very catchy pop song by Cake’s John McCrea, and make it into a nonrepetitive croon? I did my best. This song just felt right for the album and a good opportunity to feature the bassoon, an instrument which I consider myself a strong advocate for despite having a complicated history with. The solo goes up to a G5, a fourth higher than the famous Rite of Spring solo (not to toot my own horn)!

Lyrics

I need to feel your arms around me
I need to feel your touch
I need your understanding I need your love
So much

You tell me that you love me so
You tell me that you care
But when I need you
You’re never there

On the phone long long distance
Always through such strong resistence
First you say you’re too busy
I wonder if you even miss me

Never there
You’re never there
You’re never ever ever ever there

A golden bird that flies away
A candle’s fickle flame
To think I loved you yesterday
Your love was just a game

Never there

Take the time to get to know me
If you want me why can’t you just show me
We’re always on this rollercoaster
If you want me why can’t we get closer?
